Pytanie: How to build my upper body strength?

Answer #1:

I do MMA and I know exactly what you need to do to increase your strength.

When it comes to martial arts your usually fighting an opponent around your size, so body weight exercises are very important. Pull ups, pushups, dips, inverted rows and burpees are the 5 main exercises I do when I'm training for MMA. Integrating in Olympic style lifts are also great ways to add explosive movements (which are the most used movements in martial arts) are vital to adding overall strength to your body. Clean and press, snatches, swings, clean and jerk, deadlifts are just to name a few great exercises to do.

Basically though you have to start somewhere... just keep adding more repetitions or more weight to any of the exercises you do, and make sure it's intense otherwise the results will be lacking.

Capoeira is a great martial art! I hope you stick with it because its fun... good luck!

Answer #2:

I'd repeat what Fitness Freak wrote, but I'd add in properly performed squats to the mix.
