Answer #1:
Any age is a good age to start martial arts, you dont have to be flexible to begin, that can come with time, dont know, google search it.Answer #2:
Any age is a good age to start (cliche i know)I havent done capoeira for long (half a year) so I dont put it in my list of experiences in my other questions, but I can tell you a few things.
My class is mostly adults, but there are also classes for younger people. Capoeira can be dangerous, but not to the extent that you want to wait until you're older. 13 is also a good age as it requires unique movements that are harder to learn the older and more experienced you get in other things. Also, 13 is a good age where you can still gain flexibility rather quickly.
You dont have to be flexible to begin because you're likely to gain flexibility as you learn. Ironically, even if you are flexible to begin, capoeira involves very unique flexibility.
Examples are meia-lua de frente and armada. Both kicks require an interesting aspect of flexibility, not just the sit and reach many people think of. Also, back flexibility is important for moves like macaco (ex. you should be able to do the bridge before you try macaco or any of its varaints.)
I wish you good luck and hope that you may find a good capoeira school nearby. There are plenty in the east bay area :]
