Which style would be better to learn alongside taekwondo?
I would like to earn another martial art alongside taekwondo and was thinking if I should do Wing Chun, Capoeira or Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (sorry if I spelled it wrong)? I know nothing of those three and would like to some advice. Thanks! My aim is for self defense and fitness. I don't mind going into MMA matches but it is not my first priority.P.S. No, I'm sorry. I can't take something like Karate or Judo as no dojs are next to my home.

Why do people think Brazillians love MMA? (please read)?
I am Brazillian in origin but living in the UK at the moment. I often get the impression that MMA fans think Brazil is crazy about MMA. This is not true, in Brazil MMA is still a very niche sport and has only recently been added to a major TV sports station. In Brazil, even the word MMA is very unknown and is often called "Vale Tudo" (anything goes) ... it is much like how people who do not know MMA call it cage fighting.Because of it's association with Vale Tudo MMA is often looked down upon in my country. Although it has many fans people view it as a form off thug fighting, the kind that criminals do. It is often seen as unproper to talk about MMA in public because it still carries this stigma. The media in Brazil rarely bring MMA up in the news unless the police have shut down an illegal fight ring.
People outside Brazil must think Anderson SIlva and Machida are superstars here. This is untrue. While they are celebrities they are more in the B-category of celebrities. Most MMA fighters build their successes abroad. The most well-known MMA fighter in brazil would be Vitor Belfort because he is dating a famous brazillian dancer. Nog is also famous now because he is in boxing now.
In general combat sports are looked down upon in Brazil. We prefer lighter sports such as Soccer, Basketball, Volleyball, golf .etc. Boxing is the most popular combat sport but comes in a long line after other sports. capoeira is our msot love style but only because it is a dance. Most fighting styles from Brazil are not reguarded well ... such as Brazillian Jiu Jitsu which has long been used by criminals who mindlessy beat up citizens. It is seen as dirty fighting only a low-life would use. The Gracie family are often known as the greatest of all scum for glorifying their criminal heritage.
It has very many fans today in Brazil but they are seperatted by long distances and it is not hugely popular.

A mma fighter that for you will be remember in the martial arts world?
i think that Fedor maybe will be remember like the best sambo practitioner ever,i also think that machida will be remember like the karate master who has dominate in the mma world, anderson silva who has an incredible martial arts background(taekwndo, bjj, muay thai, also capoeira) is the perfect example of the bruce lee's theory on the best fighter, and shogun that is better than tony jaa xDxD guys what do you think???Pytanie #6:
Have any sumo wrestlers ever tried professional MMA?
It occurred to me to wonder whether any sumo wrestlers have ever tried to compete professionally in any of the MMA tournaments. Despite their appearance, they are immensely strong and surely their skills are no less applicable than many other baroque fighting styles, like capoeira. Their bulk would help protect them from blows and it would take a strong person indeed to try a "ground game" with a sumo.Pytanie #7:
I broke my fibula and tore the ligaments and tendons in my ankle 9 months ago. Will I be able to start MMA?
I have done breakdancing, parkour, and Capoeira in the past and I have had no problems since my recovery, but Im not sure about MMA.I breakdance, do parkour, and train Capoeira. I havenmade a full recovery, but it still has a small bit of pain from time to time...so I don't know about MMA
Pytanie #8:
Can capoeira be used as a base striking style for mma?
I'm 17 years old atm and I weigh about 85 - 90kg and im 5"11 tall in hieght, I'm fit and have a fairly solid body. I use to do Shotokan karate for 3years and ended at the age of 12 and then did boxing on and off for a few years till now so I know how to use my fists. But its been awhile since I've done any kicking so I thought of getting my kicking skills back including my speed with the kicks and especially flexability. Is doing capoeira the right choice? because I know it can take a long time before you can use any of the techniques, which I'm fine doing as I know I'll enjoy the journey but the problem is I want to compete in MMA and hopefully compete at the age 20-21 years old at an amature level and so I want to purely train from the age of 17years old - 20 or 21years old and then hopefully after plenty of amature experiences make pro in my mid or near late 20's. I have thought about this for over a year and know the pain, blood, sweat and sacrifices you have to make to be a fighter. I only want to test my limits and see how far I go while I'm still young I dont want sit on a couch watching the UFC at the age of 40 - 50yrs old regreting not making this choice because you only live once so make the most of life and thats what I beleive in.
I know capoeira isn't effective by itself when it comes to MMA so I plan on cross training in Capoeira + Boxing + BJJ and during my leaning journey I'll mix in some muay thai for the knees, elbows and clinch work. I don't want to purely learn muay thai because I've tried it on and off a few times and I know its not for me. I do know its the most effective striking style in mma and has been proven but that doesn't mean muay thai is for me and I know its not. That's why I've decided on capoeria because it fits my personality as I like to smile, laugh, jump around have fun and I can dance so the ginga is no problem for me.
If I were to train in capoeria will 3 - 4 years of training be enough to tranlate capoeira into mma including that I'll be cross training it with boxing + BJJ and taking pieces from muay thai that suit my fighting aresnal?
I've done alot of research about capoeira and have heard alot of crap saying it's not effective for self defence or full contact sports, such as mma etc. I personally beleive its effective due to its history and the abilities and skills you develop learning from this martial art. I already know that it is about "playing" or the "game" and not fighting, but you can clearly see that some moves are similar to other martial arts and if trained properly can be pretty effective. I've never done capoeira before just only RESEARCHED on it so don't want any shity against me and I'm not a know it all of capoeira hence why I've asked this question.
I'm sorry for making you all read just wanted to get it all out and hope that some questions can be answerd. Thank you in advance :)

Need help remembering MMA name?
So it was about a year ago I was searching the web for anything MMA. I came across this one type of excersize /fighting style I never knew about. Here's the catch I can't remember what it's called. I've tried desperately to search for it again (again a year later), but I am unsuccessful. It wasn't Judo, BJJ, Muay Thai, Capoeira.... I want to say it was something along the lines of Gimnasio Natural, but every time I type that into search, it goes to gymnastics. I can describe it as almost a form of pilates & Capoeira meets a boot camp lol. It has been frustrating me for quite some time. I should have book marked the page. >< If you have any clue as to what I'm talking about, PLEASE help me!Pytanie #12:
If you were going to train to be an MMA fighter, what combo of four fighting disciplines would you learn?
Given that you would train cardio, weights, sparring, and other dry-land exercises - as far as fighting disciplines go, if you could only choose to train four disciplines (e.g. - wrestling, karate, judo, etc.) which four do you think would be a good idea to learn in order to become a superior fighter?Below is a list of some fighting disciplines:
- Wrestling
- Boxing
- Karate
- Tae Kwon Do
- Judo
- Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
- Jeet Kun Do
- Ninjitsu
- Kenpo
- Shootfighting
- Kickboxing
- Hapkido
- Fencing
- Sambo
- Aikido
- Muay Thai
- Capoeira

There are some. Is there anymore styles you have found on the Internet to add? All of those guys you can look up on YouTube and find them using their particluar styles.
Pytanie #14:
how does it feel knowing you can't fight?
this question goes out to all of the martial artists that practice useless, outdated martial arts. this list would include, but is not limited to: most types of kung fu, strip mall karate( you know, not real, get your butt kicked karate, like kyokushin, but the stuff that you can find in any strip mall anywhere in the u.s.?), jeet kune do, and capoeira. my question is: how do you feel? how do you feel knowing that what you're learning isn't real fighting? does it suck? when you never see any of the real fighters using your techniques do you ever stop and wonder why? do you tell yourself that those guys arent skilled enough to pull of your "arts" techniques? or do you say that your techniques are too deadly to use in a sport? do you go in and ask your instructor why you haven't seen anyone kill someone with a death touch, or numb someones left side by disrupting the meredians? what does he say? they same stuff you tell yourself? or do you know it doesn't work, and just don't care? is it ok to you to practice something your entire life and still get beat up by the guy down the street who hasn't learned a thing? i really want to know what you guys are telling yourselves. this doesn't go out to the real martial scientists in the world, and i did say martial scientists, because a martial artist isn't looking to when fights, he's looking to make art. martial scientists are the guys looking for answers, dispelling myths, and improving upon the old ways to make things work. we're talking about the gracies, jim arvanitis, eddie bravo, all the mma coaches like greg jackson and the like, all the muay thai guys, the kyokushin guys, wrestlers, judoka, american style kickboxers, boxers, even some tkd guys out there, the krav maga guys, mark hatmaker, frank gotch, ed the strangler lewis, yukio tani, and all the guys like jim wagner and the rest of the reality based guys. these guys are really keeping the martial sciences alive and well by improving and expanding. how do you martial artists feel knowing that you just dont match up?Pytanie #15:
Help me with finding a new martial art to study!!?
I currently do Muay Thai, and I LOVE IT, but I want to find a new martial art that compliments my Muay Thai.In my neighbourhood there is:
Muay Thai
BJJ
Defendo
Kickboxing
Boxing
Krav Maga
Commando Krav Maga
Aikido
Taekwondo(lots)
Kyokushin Karate
Shintokukai Karate
Baguazhang Kung fu
Sun Hang Do
Capoeira
Bunch of random self defence courses(Reality SD etc. etc.)
So lots of variety. Im not quitting Muay Thai to start another combination.
I know BJJ looks like the most reasonable art to study, but Im not looking to fighting MMA, just pure MT, so I wanted to know whats the best art to compliment my Muay Thai. My MT gives me good striking ability, but theres no ground work, and if I get into a fight on the streets and it ends up on the ground, im screwed.
If I got into a fight with lets say a bouncer, or a random brawler, heck even another martial artist, then I want that extra element so I could beat him and get out alive. BJJ is lower on my list because I want an art that teaches how to take on multiple attackers if the fight gets to the ground. BJJ has weak point slike pavement, multiple attackers etc.
I like kyokushin karate but I cant do that wile doing Muay Thai, my friend tried and they made him change his stance, kicks, punches and all that and hes already a black belt karate.
Theres commando Krav maga in my neighbourhood, and im leaning towards that or defendo. The one that has more lethal techniques and ground work ill definately go into(looks like CKM).
Anyways Id like suggestions.
Thanks!
Pytanie #16:
What martial art is right for me?
To help with the search, I'll give you a little bit about what I'm looking for. I am almost 20 years old, around or probably a little under 6 foot tall, and am very athletic. I weigh around 140-150 lbs and am trying to get bigger (it's hard for me lol). I am looking for a style that is VERY effective. I wouldn't mind one that looks cool/intimidating as well, like capoeira or something, but I heard capoeira isn't very effective. I've looked at Krav Maga, but I'm skeptical about any style that consists of a mix of a bunch of other stuff (I might as well just go to MMA for that). Others I've looked at are Kali, Escrima, and Jiu Jitsu. I don't know what my fighting style would be (striking, grappling, or throwing), but I took a test about this and it said the best one for me is Kung Fu. I was interested in that, but I don't know how effective it is. I also was looking at Muay Thai, but I was told that I didn't have the right body type for it.I'm basically looking for something that is very effective, makes you very capable of handling multiple opponents, trains you in disarming opponents with things such as guns or knives, and, since I'm not all that huge, allows me to be able to fully defend myself against people bigger than me. If it looks cool/intimidating and graceful, that's a plus too.
Oh, and if it helps with anger problems that's also a plus, but not needed - that's what counselors are for lol. If you have any questions please let me know. Thank you very much for your time!!!
Pytanie #17:
Could capoeira be effective in mma?
I've been training in muay thai, wrestling, bjj, and some shotokan karate. I'm pretty tall so balance and sweeps are often something I have to watch out for. I was thinking capoeira could help with balance and fluidity as well as endurance trainging.Pytanie #18:
would capoeira and brazillian jiu jitsu be a good combination for mma?
Pytanie #19:
What's the weakest MMA combination you can imagine?
I mean the one that would get someone killed in the cage. I like Tai Chi / Aikido / Capoeira myself. What's your favorite?Pytanie #20:
Are there any martial arts that use aerial combat effectively?
I'm talking about one that has lots of on jump kicks, flying punches, aerial takedowns, and the like. Basically any MA that involves a good amount of attacking while in the air.Yes I know about Capoeira, but I want something that would be effective in an MMA-like setting, street fight defense, etc. Not downing on Capoeira, I just haven't seen many fighters using it.
Any suggestions?
Pytanie #21:
which brazillian style is better?
everyone that hasnt been living under a rock pretty much knows about BJJ by now and how vital it is in MMA. but what about the other brazilian fighting styles? ruas vale tudo and chute box, which one is the better? im excluding capoeira because personally im not a fan and if someone ever stepped into an octogan or ring against any mildly experienced MMA fighter, they'd get pounded within seconds.Pytanie #22:
Which Martial Art do you think is the best?
Here is a list of some of my favorites in random order:Kung Fu
Ninjitsu
Akkido
Hapkido
Capoeira
Muay Thai
Karate
Tai Kwon Do
Judo
Jiu Jitsu(MMA)
Jeet Kune Do
There are a ton more but its too many to list so I'll just stop here.
I know none can actually be the best but I just like to get people's opinions.
ok I think you guys got me all wrong, I'm not new to the martial arts. My dad used to be a martial arts teacher and I have studied and trained with many different styles but the main style I train in is Ninjutsu.
And for everyone who keeps saying there's not a best, I already know that I stated that in the detail but I guess what I should be asking is Which Martial Art style do you prefer?
Pytanie #23:
Why do I see most Brazilian MMA fighters use Muay Thai instead of Capoeira?
I've seen Capoeira being used effectively in MMA before. But apparently, many MMA fighters don't see it. You don't have to do any of the pretty acrobatics and dance you see in Capoeira, all you need is it's striking techniques.Pytanie #24:
is Capoeira for show or can you really fight with that?
i do ju-jitsu and some mma classes and i amreally good in boxing.i just saw some videos about
Capoeira and i think it super gay sorry to say.
i will like to know who will win Capoeira or ju-jitsu in a fight?
Pytanie #25:
What's the Best Combination of Martial Arts? And Why?
For this exercise, let's define "best" as most effective in a self defense situation, NOT for competing in MMA1)Muay Thai & BJJ
2)Karate & Judo
3)Tae Kwon do & Hapkido
4)Boxing & Wrestling (including Sambo)
5)Ninjutsu & Aikido
6)Capoeira & BJJ
Pytanie #26:
Can Capoeira work in a real fight?
Many people criticize me because I practice Capoeira. Most of these people are people that don't practice martial arts and have only seen Capoeira being used in a choreographed manner. However, I've seen MMA fighters punish their opponents using Capoeira striking techniques. And on top of that, Mestre Bimba was one of the greatest Capoeiristas of all time; he created a faster and more combat-oriented Capoeira style known as Capoeira Regional. He even tested his style against different fighters of different styles, and beat them all. So I'm asking people for their opinion, what's yours?Pytanie #27:

What styles/concepts are mixed in the MMA school/class you go to?
I just switched MMA schools due to one being more closer, cheaper (Actually just because of gas lol :p), and more frequent. The original school mixed BJJ, Muay Thai, Wing Chun, and he also has an instructor cordao in Capoeira (He taught that on the side).
The school I went to today (That I'm most likely changing to permanently until I leave for BMT) mixes:
Striking- American Kenpo and Kickboxing
Grappling- Brazilian and Small Circle Jujutsu.

Need to be under 145 lbs?
I've seem to have reached a plateau with my weight loss. I've dropped 8 pounds since the beginning of Sept. and I need to drop 7 more by Nov. 3rd. I've tried diet & exercise but is there anything that I'm performing or consuming that's too much or too little or have I been missing something?Diet:
-1,500 max
-1 or 2 power bars (depending on if I have practice)
-5 frozen strawberries
-multiple clementines
-1 slice proscuitto
-1 or 2 cups coffee
-Ground Turkey/Tuna/Steak
-1/2 cup onions
-1/2 cup mushrooms
-1 pint gatorade
-water throughout the day
Daily Workout:
-30 minute run
-30 minute row
-UE and back or LE and abs (rotates daily)
-30 minute capoeira or jujitsu drills/grappling
-20 minute yoga & other stretching
-I have MMA practice 1-2 hours once a week and I walk 6 miles everysaturday to go grocery shopping
I sleep about 8 hours a night, but about once every 2 weeks I lose sleep due to tests and labs.
Workout:
I've also recently changed the way I perform resistance training. I went from strength with some hypertrophy to endurance and power, which means different weights and increased repetitions. I actually work abs everyday (plyometrics one day, weight lifting the other).
Diet:
Every Saturday I have clams for lunch with possibly some nuts.

What are the benefits of studying BJJ and Capoeira?
How do they help each other, and can you use them in MMA.Pytanie #32:
Tired of people who watch a few MMA matches and think they know it all?
I'm tried of people thinking they know about what works and what doesn't in a real life fight just because they have seen a couple of MMA matches. Namely the kids who see any art other then BJJ or Muay Thai and go "Your art sucks, a BJJ user would destroy you" without any real martial arts experience. Gung Fu, Tae Kwon Do, Aikido, Western Boxing, Wing Chun, Greco Roman Wrestling, Shaolin Gung Fu, Karate, Judo, and especially Jeet Kun Do all were created for reasons other then being inferior to a BJJ/MT mix. They we're created to help defend yourself in a real fight, not a sport, and you know what? Some of them have worked for over a millenium. BJJ is around 75+ years old. Not even a century and its a sport art. It is as good as you make it, an art is a tool of the human body and mind. You make the art, the art doesnt make you. That means that a BJJ/MT mix is just as good or as bad some someone with a Wrestling/Capoeira or Kung Fu/Shao Jiao.
A martial art is a tool of YOUR use.
